What 32 top producers built, and how to build it for $9 a month

The 8 pieces, the order they go in, what each one costs, and a 2-minute test that shows which ones you're missing.

Rob Fore
Written and researched by
Rob Fore
Online marketer since 1996 · HBA affiliate since 2020 · author of the 32-producer study. 297 HBA customers referred, and $278,272.87 in HBA commissions over six years, per his own back office.
Typical results are far lower. HBA's own disclosure for the 12 months to 31 July 2026: the average active affiliate earned $530, and the median earned $0.

A note from : I didn't write this report. Rob Fore did, from his own research and his own commission ledger. He lets people on his team pass it on with their name on it. His numbers, not mine. Questions about any of it come straight to me.

Top producers keep pulling in traffic, leads and sales, year after year. Some of them switched companies twice. The results came anyway.

Meanwhile you do the work. You post the thing. It goes quiet.

I wanted to know why. So in August 2026 I had AI build a file on 32 people who each earn $100,000 or more a year. 14 in network marketing. 18 in affiliate marketing.

Rob Fore wanted to know why. So in August 2026 he had AI build a file on 32 people who each earn $100,000 or more a year. 14 in network marketing. 18 in affiliate marketing.

That income is far from typical. HBA's median active affiliate earned $0 in the 12 months to 31 July 2026.

Then I lookedThen he looked for what they did, not what they sold. The plain, boring habits that showed up again and again, whatever they promoted.

Here's what came back.

What the 32 producers didHow many
Built a personal brand under their own name100%
Mastered one channel before adding a second91%
Built an email list they own88%
Published on a fixed daily or weekly rhythm84%
Ran a funnel with a free lead magnet78%
Held a daily conversation quota69%
Took 6 to 24 months to earn a real income66%
Relied on paid ads22%

Read August 2026. If a habit couldn't be confirmed from a primary source, the producer was counted as not doing it. So every figure is on the low side. The full study is in Rob Fore's The Proven Path.

Read the top row. All 32 built a personal brand. Not one exception.

So what they promoted was never what made it work. How they promoted it did: the tools, the steps, the rhythm.

Now read the bottom row. Only 22% leaned on paid ads. Nearly 4 in 5 got there without buying traffic. If you've told yourself you can't compete with no ad budget, sit with that row.

And the row nobody likes. Two in three took 6 to 24 months of steady work before the income meant anything.

6 to 24 months. That's the real timeline.

Two ways to do this. Most people pick the wrong one.

The casino

Buy a click. It works for about 8 seconds. Stop paying and it stops, the same day.

The orchard

Plant a video, an article, an email list. It's quiet for a while. Then a video you film this month can still bring people in years from now.

That quiet stretch at the start of the orchard is where most people quit.

All 32 planted an orchard. The 22% who bought ads bought them on top of it, not instead of it. That's not my opinion about ads. It's what the file said. That's not anybody's opinion about ads. It's what the file said when Rob went looking.

So why does almost nobody have all 8?

None of this is hidden. You half-know every piece already.

The catch is that the 8 aren't a list you read. They're a machine you put together, and it only pays once the pieces connect. Videos with nowhere to send people. A list you never email. An offer with no audience. Each piece alone does close to nothing. So people drop them one at a time and decide the whole thing doesn't work.

Most people buy three tools that do the same job. Then they never write the one sentence that says why anyone should pick them. That sentence costs nothing.

I've watched someone spend $333 a month on tools a beginner can run for $9. Same 8 jobs. And still not one email address they owned.

Rob Fore has watched someone spend $333 a month on tools a beginner can run for $9. Same 8 jobs. And still not one email address they owned.

This report fixes that. You'll build your machine while you read: the 8 pieces, what the tools cost at today's prices, which ones you're missing, your Break-Even Number, and 5 AI prompts to run once your tools are open.

Reading and ticking the boxes takes about 20 minutes. Building the piece you're missing takes longer. Nobody can do that part for you.

The machine, in one picture

Every online business that works runs this loop. The tools change every couple of years. The loop doesn't.

A stranger→Your video→A page that offers something free→They type in their email→Emails over the next days→Some reply→A few buy

The 3 shaded boxes are what people call a funnel. A page, the thing you give away on it, and the emails that follow. That's all the word means. People make it sound hard because hard is easier to sell.

Which of the 8 are you actually doing?

Not what you've set up. What you do.

Buying a tool never produced a result for anybody. The 32 got results because they did the same small things over and over, for months. They used the tools. That's why every line below is a verb.

Each piece has a test. Tick the box only if you pass it. Take number 4. If you haven't emailed your list in the past 30 days, leave it blank. If you emailed it last week, tick it.

Be hard on yourself. A tick you didn't earn wastes the only thing this page is good for.

  1. 1

I publish short videos where strangers find me

This is what puts you in front of people who've never heard of you.

Test: did you publish one in the last 7 days?

Do this: pick ONE platform. Not three. Write down which, and the day you post.

  2. 2

I have somewhere people can go deeper

Nobody buys from a 30-second clip. They buy once they decide they trust you.

Test: is there one place with more than 5 things to read or watch?

Do this: a blog, a podcast, or long videos. Name yours.

  3. 3

I have a page that collects email addresses

This turns a stranger into somebody you can reach again.

Test: could you send me the link right now, and does it have a box on it?

Do this: one page. One promise. One box. Nothing else on it.

  4. 4

I email that list, on a rhythm

The only audience you own. Everything else is rented from a company that can change the rules.

Test: did you send anything in the last 30 days?

Do this: make the list today, even with one person on it. Then write one email.

  5. 5

I talk to people one to one, every day

The sale doesn't happen on the page. It happens in the reply.

Test: how many real conversations did you have yesterday?

Do this: reply to every comment and every message for one week. Count them.

  6. 6

I offer something free AND something that costs money

The free thing gets you the email address. The paid thing is how you get paid.

Test: can you name both out loud right now?

Do this: write both down. If you can't, that's the gap.

  7. 7

I can say why someone should pick me

Four hundred other people promote what you promote.

Test: one sentence, no company name in it. Say it.

Do this: write it. Read it out loud. If it makes you wince, it's not done.

  8. 8

I put money back in, but only into what already works

Paid traffic buys speed. It can't buy a machine you haven't built.

Test: are the 7 above actually running?

Do this: if anything above is blank, this one stays at $0. Only 22% of the 32 relied on ads.

You've ticked 0 of 8. Saved in this browser.

Number 6 is the one I see missing most.Number 6 is the one Rob Fore sees missing most. With one offer, you get one chance at a yes. With a free one and a paid one, the same person gets two chances. And the people who take the free one are the ones who buy the paid one later.

What does the whole machine cost?

Two lists. Same 8 jobs. Real prices from each vendor's own page, read in August 2026 and checked again on 17 September 2026.

The cheap way

The accidental way
$333

Same 8 jobs. 37 times the money.

Nobody sets out to spend $333. They spend $9, then $29, then a free trial they forget to cancel. 18 months later they pay four companies for the same job, and they still have no email list.

The expensive tools aren't bad. The expensive list just gets built by accident, one Tuesday at a time, before anything is running.

So build on the cheap list. Then pay to fix the first thing that truly stops you. You'll know it's time when you can finish this sentence out loud: “I can't do ___ until I upgrade, and I have people waiting.” Hitting the free plan's contact limit is a reason. “It feels a bit limited” is not.

Your Break-Even Number

This is the one number that decides whether you're still doing this in month 9. It takes 90 seconds.

What your tools cost each month ÷ what you earn per customer each month = how many customers before your tools pay for themselves.

Below that number, every month costs you money. Above it, every new customer is yours to keep. Only two things move it: what your tools cost, and what you earn per customer. You control both.

Run yours
Your Break-Even Number
–

Here it is on four shapes of business. Rows 1, 2 and 4 use round numbers to show the shape. They aren't claims about any company, or about what you'd earn.

If you promote…ToolsPer customerBreak-Even
A products company paying about $4 a month per customer$333$484 customers
The same company, on the $9 list$9$43 customers
HBA's $35 package, which pays $8 + $20 = $28 a month per customer on it$35$282 customers
Anything that pays once, with nothing recurring$9$0 after month oneNever

Row 3 uses HBA's published commission rates on its $10 and $25 products. Two customers is where the bill is covered, not a forecast that you'll get them: in the 12 months to 31 July 2026, only 28.3% of HBA affiliates made a single sale.

Row 1 is why so many good people quit network marketing. They didn't lack effort. Somebody sold them a $333 setup to promote a $4-a-month customer, so the machine can't pay for itself until customer 84. That's not a character flaw. It's math nobody showed them.

Row 4 is worse. A one-time commission means your bills come back every month and your income doesn't.

systeme.io or HBA: which one fits you?

There are lots of ways to build this. I point people at two: systeme.io and the Home Business Academy. Each one covers the tool side of all 8 in a single account. Pages, funnel, checkout, email list, automation. One login, one bill.

Answer 3 questions and this tells you which one fits, and why. Sometimes it tells you to spend nothing.

1. Do you want to earn commissions from recommending the tools you use?
2. What can you spend on tools right now?
3. Do you already have something you sell or promote?

Start with the systeme.io free plan.

You want the tools, not a second income. So don't pay for an opportunity you've said you don't want. The free plan gives you the capture page, the funnel and the email list for $0. Those are pieces 3 and 4, where most people stall. Build them this week.

Open my free systeme.io account Affiliate link. I earn a commission only if you ever upgrade. The free plan stays free. Not an affiliate link. I earn nothing from it.

Start free. Decide when you have evidence.

You're open to earning from what you use, but there's nothing to spend this month. Start free so the page and the list exist. Once you have a list and a publishing habit, the $35 question answers itself, and you'll answer it with evidence instead of hope.

Open my free systeme.io account Affiliate link. I earn a commission only if you ever upgrade. Not an affiliate link. I earn nothing from it.

Come back when the list exists. Your ticks above are saved.

Keep what you promote. Build the machine under it.

You already sell something, so the offer isn't your gap. The machine is. Either one works here, and you can refer either. They work in different ways. systeme.io's affiliate program is free to join. With HBA you earn only on products you own and are active on, so you buy it first. Pick HBA for the training and the community. Pick free if you'd rather spend nothing until the machine runs.

$35 a month ($10 Let's Goal + $25 Funnel Builder), billed monthly. It includes a 14-day Premium trial that becomes $125 a month unless you cancel it. Cancel online in one click, from Manage subscription in your HBA Profile. You keep access to the end of the month you paid for. A new paid membership has a 72-hour money-back guarantee. The Premium trial doesn't, and there are no part-month refunds. HBA's terms.

The Home Business Academy is the closer fit.

You want the tools and a way to earn from them, and you have a budget. With HBA the tools and the offer are the same thing. You earn on the products you own and are active on, so what you pay for is also what you can recommend. The published rate is 80% recurring on the $35 package. systeme.io is the other way round: its affiliate program is free to join, at a lower published rate.

Before you decide, the typical result. HBA's disclosure for the 12 months to 31 July 2026 shows an average of $530 for active affiliates, and a median of $0. Half earned nothing.

If not one of these two, what? Write down what you'd use for each of the 8 instead, and what each one costs. If your list is shorter and cheaper, use it. I mean that.

And if not now, when? If nothing changes, nothing changes.

Five prompts to run once your tools are open

Run these once you have an account open in another tab. Either one. They go in order, and each one feeds the next: what you sell, your name and domain, every offer you have, a free bonus to build this week, and the opt-in page to put it behind.

Prompts 1 to 3 fit in one sitting. Prompt 4 needs a real block of time, about 3 hours. Copy each one into any AI assistant and answer honestly.

Prompt 1: What do I actually sell, and to whom
I am setting up an online business and I want to get specific
about what I sell before I build anything.

What I promote or want to promote:
[COMPANY, PRODUCT, OR "NOT SURE YET"]

What I know how to do, and what people ask me about:
[WRITE 3-4 THINGS HERE]

Ask me five questions, one at a time, to work out:
1. Exactly who this is for - describe them as a real person with a
job, an age, and a problem they had this week.
2. The one sentence I would say to them: "I help [who] do [what]
   without [the thing they dread]."

After my answers, give me three versions of that sentence and tell me
which is strongest and why. No hype words. Sixth-grade reading level.

Where it goes: ChatGPT, Claude or any AI assistant. Keep the chat open, because Prompt 2 needs this answer.

Then: Put the winning sentence on your opt-in page and in your video bio.

Prompt 2: My name, my tagline, my domain
All 32 of the top producers I am learning from built a personal
brand under their own name. I want to set mine up properly, once.

My name: [YOUR NAME]
My one-sentence promise: [PASTE FROM PROMPT 1]
Who I help: [FROM PROMPT 1]

Give me:
1. Ten taglines under eight words. Plain English. They go under my
name on a page and in a video bio, so they have to sound like
something I would actually say out loud.
2. Twelve domain name ideas. Rules: put my own name first, .com
where possible, no hyphens, no numbers, nothing I would have to
spell out twice on a phone call. Include the plain
firstnamelastname.com version even if it is boring - boring and
   mine beats clever and rented.
3. The exact same handle to use on every platform, so people
looking for me find me. Say which platforms it is free on.
4. A four-line bio I can paste into any profile today.

Then tell me which tagline and which domain you would pick, and why.

Do not suggest a business name that hides who I am. I want people
searching for ME to find me, not a brand I have to explain.

Where it goes: Any AI assistant. Check the domains are free before you fall in love with one.

Then: Buy the domain today, about $15. Then set the same handle on every platform you use.

Prompt 3: Every offer I already have, free and paid
Here is my one-sentence promise:
[PASTE THE SENTENCE FROM PROMPT 1]

Here is what I have access to right now:
[YOUR COMPANY, PRODUCTS, TOOLS, AFFILIATE PROGRAMS, YOUR OWN SERVICES]

Do three things:
1. List every single thing on that list I could put in front of
somebody, and mark each one FREE or PAID.
2. Tell me which gaps I have - if I have no free offer, or nothing
   paid, say so plainly.
3. Put them in the order somebody would naturally meet them, from
the first free thing to the most expensive paid thing.

Use only what I listed. Do not invent products I did not name, and do
not tell me what I might earn.

Where it goes: Same chat. This is piece 6 on the checklist above.

Then: Write the free one and the paid one at the top of the page. That's your gap, closed.

Prompt 4: A free bonus I can build this week
My promise is:
[PASTE THE SENTENCE FROM PROMPT 1]

My free offer is:
[FROM PROMPT 3, OR "I DO NOT HAVE ONE"]

Give me 5 ideas for a free bonus I could build myself in under three
hours, that somebody would hand over an email address to get. Rules:
- No video course, no webinar, no 40-page ebook.
- Each one must be a checklist, a template, a swipe file, a
one-page cheat sheet, or a short guide.
- For each, give me the title the way a person would say it out loud,
and the first three bullet points inside it.
- Mark the ONE you would build first and say why that one.

Then write the full first draft of the one you marked.

Where it goes: Same chat. Upload the finished file to your tools as the lead magnet.

Then: Build it today. Badly is fine. It's the reason somebody gives you an email address.

Prompt 5: The opt-in page, written and ready to paste
Write the copy for a single opt-in page. Context:

My promise: [PASTE THE SENTENCE FROM PROMPT 1]
My free bonus: [FROM PROMPT 4]
Who it is for: [THE PERSON YOU DESCRIBED IN PROMPT 1]

Give me, in this order:
- 5 headline options, plain spoken, no hype, no "secret" or
  "unlock" or "game changer".
- 3 short bullet points saying what they get.
- The one line above the email box.
- The button text - 3 options, none of them "Submit".
- The exact words on the thank-you page after they join.

Rules: sixth-grade reading level. No exclamation marks. Do not
promise any income, result, or timeline. Do not quote conversion
rates or statistics - I will not publish numbers I cannot source.

Where it goes: Paste it straight into your page builder. Preview it in your browser before you publish.

Then: Send yourself through it. Fill in your own form. If anything feels odd, fix that one thing.

What happens after you sign up

Two honest answers, because two kinds of people read this.

If you just want the tools

You join, log in and build your thing. Pages, funnel, checkout, email list. One account, one bill.

You also get an email from me the same day, with the documents for the level you joined at. And whenever you write, you get a reply from me inside one business day, whether you ever spend another dollar or not.

You also get an email from me with the documents for the level you joined at, and a reply whenever you write, whether you ever spend another dollar or not.

Then nothing else happens. Nobody chases you. The affiliate side is a door, not a turnstile. It's there if you ever want it, and it costs nothing to leave shut.

If you also want to earn from what you use

Same email, same documents, plus the thing that takes longest to build yourself.

You get this whole funnel, set up with your links.

7 pages and both reports. Your links on every button, and the people who opt in land on your list. You set it up yourself in about 90 minutes, on one page with a screenshot for every click. Then you have somewhere to send people on day one. Every document carries your name on the cover too.

Then something starts to matter that nobody warns you about. It isn't how to get more people. It's what you own, because HBA pays you only on products you own yourself. Same customer, five times the difference, depending on one choice you make on the way in.

That's the other report, and it's the one I'd read next.

What to do today

So where do you start?

You know which pieces you're missing. You ticked the boxes. The only question left is what to build them on.

If you want the tools and a way to earn from them

The Home Business Academy, $35 a month. One account covers the tool side of all 8. It pays 80% recurring on the $35 package, so 2 customers on it cover your own bill: 2 × $28 = $56. That's a Break-Even Number of 2, not 84.

That matters most if you plan to hand this report to your own people. The report rebrands to you, and so does every link in it.

Before you click. $35 a month ($10 Let's Goal + $25 Funnel Builder), billed monthly. It includes a 14-day Premium trial that becomes $125 a month unless you cancel it. You earn only on HBA products you own and are active on, so referring it means buying it first. HBA's disclosure for the 12 months to 31 July 2026: average active affiliate $530, median $0. Half earned nothing. Full disclosure: thehba.app/income Cancel online in one click, from Manage subscription in your HBA Profile. You keep access to the end of the month you paid for. A new paid membership has a 72-hour money-back guarantee. The Premium trial doesn't, and there are no part-month refunds. HBA's terms.

If you only want the tools, and no income side at all

systeme.io's free plan. 3 funnels, 2,000 contacts, unlimited emails, no card. It covers pieces 3 and 4, the capture page and the list, the two most people are missing. Build those this week, and come back to the rest when they're running.

Open my free systeme.io accountAffiliate link. The free plan is free, and I earn only if you upgrade. The free plan is free, and this one is not an affiliate link.

Neither one is a shortcut. Two in three of the 32 took 6 to 24 months. The tools were never the part that paid. The publishing, the emailing and the conversations were.

Where the numbers came from

Every price is a published list price read from the vendor's own page in August 2026 and checked again on 17 September 2026. HBA's 80% recurring rate, and its $8 and $20 commissions on the $10 and $25 products, are on its own compensation page. The earnings figures are from HBA's published disclosure at thehba.app/income for the 12 months ending 31 July 2026. Nothing in this report is a projection, an average outcome, or a guarantee of your results.
